But based on what I've heard, “Tom and Jerry: The Movie” received mostly negative reviews from critics.
So you would think that a theatrical film based on an old cartoon series that started back in the 1940s would make a great summer block buster hit. Now before I go over this review, Tom and Jerry is considered one of the most memorable cartoons in history.
In fact, this movie used to be a childhood favorite of mine. Some of them turned out to be rather decent. Now, as we all know, there has been many movies based on cartoons, video games, and comic books in the past. But I figured I'd share my own experiences of this movie that I have. I know that the Nostalgia Critic did a review of this movie a while back. Personal Comments: Originally released July 10th, 1992, this was the first and only theatrical film ever given to the silent duo. Lickboot, who of course turn out being the main villains of this movie. The girl also tells them that she's running away from her mean Aunt Figg and Mr. Later on, Tom and Jerry come across a young girl named Robyn Starling, who explains to them that her mother died when she was a baby, and that she has a father whose in Tibet. When Pugsy's tray is full, two stray-catchers capture him and Frankie and carry them away in their truck. They also agree to have a "feast" at their place and Pugsy makes a "buffet" by collecting leftovers from trash cans. Although Tom and Jerry are rather reluctant to put aside their differences seeing as they've been enemies for a long time, they both agree to Pugsy's advice. Pugsy and Frankie encourage the two to be friends, as it would be difficult to survive in the world alone. Tom and Jerry both introduce themselves, before comically expressing shock at having spoken for the first time. As night falls, they make their way into an alley, where they meet a stray dog named Pugsy, and his friend Frankie Da Flea. The reluctant duo wander the streets looking for food and shelter, but are unsuccessful.
The next day, as the house is being destroyed by a demolition crew, Tom escapes, but hurriedly goes back to rescue Jerry. While Tom dozes in the back of the car, he notices Jerry and chases him, causing Tom to be left behind when his owners leave. Tom and his owners are about to move to a new home. New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Beverly Hills, etc. The name of the city is never specified, but I guess we can assume it's any place in the United States. The movie opens up in a house that's located within a city. And when I say “different”, I specifically MEAN different. Synopsis: Based on the long running MGM cartoon series of the same name, this 1992 animated feature film takes on a completely different spin on the franchise.
